FordonsData is the market leader in business systems and sales support for the automotive industry. They are suppliers of several car brands (such as BMV, Opel, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota). The system is available to over 600 customers with about 9,000 users.
During the late autumn of 2021, I had the opportunity to help FordonsData with two parallel tasks: developing a new icon system for a newly developed web application and reviewing and optimizing the appearance and usability of an iPad app for car mechanics. The challenge was that FordonsData had worked for a long time in the industry with old digital tools installed on desktops. Now they were in the middle of the process of modernizing and optimizing these tools for web and mobile devices. My focus was clarity, usability, and optimization for the new interfaces. It is not a straight line to go from one type of digital tool to another, and there my long experience of working with clear interfaces came in handy.
